Lot Essay

Similar to the two figures in the foreground of The council in the arena in the Museo Civico, Udine, A. Rizzi, Mostra del Tiepolo, exhib. cat., Udine, 1971, no. 56. The picture depicts the council of the Order of Malta that took place in September 1748. The painting is a product of collaboration between Giovanni Battista and his son Domenico.
