Provenance
P. Vischer (L. 2115 and L. 2116), his mount and inscription 'No. 105 Jesu Christ baptis par St. Jean, Desin antique d'un maitre inconnu' and 'Ce maitre est jean Memlinc. Le tableau, qui est une triptyque, est dans les salles de l'academie Bruges. Les ailes de ce triptyque reprsentant le donateur et ses fils, la donatrice et ses filles. Hans Holbein 45 l.'.

Friedrich Thne dated the drawing to 1596-7, following Lindtmayer's conversion to Catholicism. He also pointed out two other drawings of the same subject op. cit., nos. 200 and 203.
