Chteau Haut-Brion--Vintage 1961
Pessac (Graves), 1er cru class. Chteau-bottled
Three very badly bin-soiled labels, four without labels and three remains of labels only. Good levels: 5cms below base of capsule or better
Tasting note: As always, a totally different style, different taste, from it's Mdoc peers. But like them, an unmistakable depth of colour, just as the '45s had. A singed, tobacco and tea-leaves scent, harmonious - no harsh edges - confident, elegant and superb in its own idiosyncratic way. An elegant, silky texture, as opposed to the more rustic, vigourous La Mission. Never very dry, it now has a pleasing sweetness, perfectly assimilated tannins and acidity, balance and length. Beautiful. ***** M.B.
