Tasting note: Sensationally good magnum with Peter Palumbo at Bougival in 1969, a bottle at Rodenstock's tasting in 1984 and another, with Cruse label with Le Cercle de Vingt at Le Fondation Cartier. All fairly deep warm amber with tinge of orange and a yellow-green rim; very sweet vanilla, apple crumble, peaches, crme-brle bouquet; the last two bottles sweet, rich, yet with a lean deft touch and powerful blancmange flavour. ***** M.B.
