Engraved 'Iohannes Leicham/Schneider/In Wienn 1725' on the gilt garland decorated with martial trophies in high relief between engraved stylised trees, the bell section engraved with a coat-of-arms and military and musical trophies, the gilt boss decorated with cavalry men and coloured glass, the gilt joins covered by barley twist ferrules, lacking mouthpiece, with later silk cord and tassels

Lot Essay

Johann Leichamschneider (1679-after 1725) was the younger brother of Michael Leichamschneider and among other commissions supplied a pair of French hunting horns,dated 1711, that are listed in the 1720 inventory of the Duke of Chandos.
