19th Century, bearing Paris marks, the charge mark of J. J. Prevost, a P in script crowned and maker's mark JDC with helmet for difference
Oval, the cover with central oval medallion chased, in the style of the younger Grard Debche, with children playing a game, under glass, within green enamel and simulated split pearl frame, between two smaller circular medallions chased with gardening trophies within foiled moss agate, the border enamelled with similar foliage and split pearls and chased with flowers at intervals, the sides chased with panels of children playing within similar frames, divided by enamelled gold torcheres, the base with three panels of gardening trophies under glass, marked on base, sides and cover, the bezel with incuse bird and number 6319

This box appears to be based on a snuff-box by Paul Nicolas Menire, Paris, 1778 with medallions by Grard Debche, formerly in the collection of the 6th Lord Ashburton, sold Christie's Geneva, 25 May 1993, lot 69.
