With finely divided scales, one inscribed 'Schala Altimetra' the upper surface with three folding sights, each decorated with scrolls and foliage, the apex sight with bearing surface for an alidade (missing), the underside engraved with an illustration of a cannon with the quadrant in use, with an elevation/depression scale, the zenith of the engraved circle with pin-hole for use with a plummet, with decorative tripod or staff mounting

and A brass metal plate with shaped corners and two adjusting screws and one fixed foot, possibly for use with a separate level as a levelling device; 4.3/8 in. (11 cm.) long
