A Composite Cuirassier Armour
Comprehensively circa 1620, French or Dutch
Comprising heavy shot-proof close-helmet with two-piece skull with prominent comb (slight damage) and heavy reinforcing-plate on each side, the right plate with the mark of a proof bullet, visor with stepped double vision-slits and lifting-peg on the right, prow-shaped upper-bevor pierced with circular breaths and lower-bevor shaped to the chin with pivot-hook fastening on the right, all pivoted at the same points on the skull, single gorget-plate at front and rear (the rear plate an old replacement, damaged on left side), and later leather chin-strap, gorget, very heavy cuirass with breast-plate with low medial ridge and bold roped turns at the neck and arm-holes, back-plate with culet of two plates (minor holing), knee-length tassets with poleyns, the culet and tassets secured by bolts and wing-nuts, and full arm defences (some plates removed from each pauldron) including earlier gauntlets with flared pointed cuffs (each lacking thumb-defence and fingers), one cuff struck with the Nuremberg mark, painted black with bright borders throughout (some leathers defective): on wooden stand
