With twist sighted barrels signed on the top flat, engraved tangs incorporating the back-sight, signed bevelled case-hardened locks each with stepped tail, safety-catch, semi-rainproof pan, roller, and blued steel-spring (one cock with old repair), figured walnut full stocks, chequered butts, engraved blued iron mounts including trigger-guards with pineapple finial, silver escutcheons engraved with initials, brass-tipped ramrods, and much original finish (barrels with some light pitting): in fitted mahogany case, probably original, lined in green velvet, with accessories and James Wilkinson trade label, London proof marks

Lot Essay

John Blanch was apprenticed to Jackson Mortimer, and worked first for John Manton, in partnership with his father-in-law as Mortimer & Blanch, 1811-12, and on his own from 1813.
