A Rare 32-Bore Russian Flintlock Holster Pistol With Three-Colour Gold Decoration
Third quarter of the 18th Century, probably Tula
With swamped etched twist barrel encrusted at the breech with a seated figure of Mars above two garlands and beneath scrolls, and with similar scrolls around the silver spider fore-sight, shaped tang engraved with rococo ornament, rounded lock (top jaw and screw replaced) encrusted with garlands, scrolls, and trophies of arms, moulded figured walnut full stock carved with rococo decoration in relief, iron mounts including side-plate and decorated en suite with the lock, horn fore-end cap, and horn-tipped ramrod (butt with minor repairs, slight wear)
