A George III ebonised musical bracket clock, third quarter 18th century
The gilt-brass lined case with handle to bell top and four pineapple finials to the angles, foliate fret carved roundels above glazed side panels, foliate pierced and chased gilt-brass quarter frets to front and rear doors, the brass-bound base on bracket feet, the dial signed George Maynard Long Melford on a shaped silvered sector in the matted centre, also with mock pendulum and date apertures, silvered Roman chapter ring with Arabic five minutes, blued steel hands, foliate spandrels, with chime/silent and strike/silent levers beneath the subsidiary silvered ring in the arch engraved with choice of four tunes A March/Happy Clown/Tumpety Tump/Bath Minuet, the massive triple wire fusee movement with six pillars, later anchor escapement, the music playing on eight bells via fourteen hammers and with hour strike on a further bell, the backplate profusely engraved with foliate scrolls
