The case with dentil mouldings to the breakarch hood, outset fluted columns and glazed side panels, with breakarch trunk door, the plinth with moulded panellling and raised on a wavy skirting, the silvered dial with painted rolling moon to the arch below inscription HIGH TIDE AT PORTSMOUTH, with foliate scroll engraved spandrels and centre, the latter also with chinoiserie pagoda and signature W.m Avenell Portsmouth Common, with recessed subsidiary seconds ring and demi-lune date aperture, the four pillar rack striking movement with anchor escapement; possibly associated
