An early 19th-Century brass theodolite of small size,
the telescope with sliding-tube focusing to the object glass, fitted with a bubble level and mounted on a limb frame by two pins, the axis incorporating the vertical half-circle divided in two quadrants, and raised over the horizontal plate, signed Wellington Crown Court Soho London, the compass box with edge-bar needle, jewelled pivot and clamp, the horizontal plate fitted with the cross bubble, with horizontal chamfered scale, with single vernier and stadia line, with rack and pinion adjustment, raised on stub mounting for tripod or staff, contained in the original mahogany carrying case -- 9.3/8in. (23.8cm.) wide
