Lot Essay

It is highly unusual to find a Qur'an written in the Holy City of Mecca. The style of illumination and calligraphy is that of an Ottoman Qur'an of the 16th century. Mecca had passed under Ottoman influence early in the century after the defeat of the Mamluks by the Ottomans.
