Lot Essay

This is a copy of the famous work commissioned by the Artuqid Sultan, Nasir al-Din Mahmud (1200-22) of Amid in northern Mesopotamia. Early copies dated 1254 and 1315 are in the Topkapu Seray and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Ettinghausen, R.:Arab painting, New York, 1977, pp. 93-6.
