Of flattened globular form on spreading lobed trumpet foot, with lobed and domed cover, and with double spout, the simple loop handle with finial in the form of a standing lion, the tail ending in stylised half palmette, body engraved with floral motifs, red and green patination, foot probably associated

Lot Essay

Another oil lamp of similar form but with the handle surmounted by a bird rather than a lion was offered in these Rooms 26 April 1994, lot 299. A lamp of very similar form to the present piece is in the al-Sabah Collection, Kuwait.
