The pear-shaped ewer on short foot with straight neck and loop handle with thumb rest, the shoulder with a deep frieze of moulded kufic on a ground of arabesques, the body of the ewer with a wider band of similar calligraphy in low relief, the neck with a further band of kufic on a plain ground, the whole covered with a thick opaque tuquoise glaze, restored

Lot Essay

The main inscription on the lower body is a somewhat corrutped benedictory inscription. What can be made out is: sa'ada w'al-......., w'al-sala[ma] wa['l-] y[umn] wa[l-]sa'ada [w'al-]sala[ma].
