'There is a preface by Maskelyne and notes taken by him on the occasion of the 'discovery', when Harrison took his watch to pieces in the presence of several people, including Mudge and Kendal. Then follow three pages of obscure general description by Harrison, and a statement naming the parts shown in the drawings. The drawings are beautifully executed, but it would be very difficult to understand the mechanism from the book.' (Baillie)
