The subject is taken from Daniel, 4:16-33. Toward the close of Nebuchadnezzar's reign his glory suffered a temporary eclipse when, as a punishment for his pride and vanity, he contracted a temporary madness which the Greeks called Lycanthropy wherein the sufferer imagines himself a beast and insists on living the life of one.
