FIRST EDITION, A RARE SYNGE PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed by him on the front free endpaper: "Herr Karel Musek with best wishes from J.M. Synge, Jan. 7th, 1908." The Bohemian actor Musek had translated The Shadow of the Glen into Czech and gave it a production in Prague in February 1906 (when Synge was getting little recognition in Ireland); he would eventually translate most of Synge into Czech. A very good copy.
