The silvered dial with a date and pendulum aperture below a strike/silent dial in the arch within foliate scroll spandrels and with an eight and four bell selector, the rectangular case with a caddy hood with a urn finials, the angles mounted with female terms issuing floral trails, the sides with carrying handles on a molded rectangular base with foliate-scrolled feet, the engraved backplate with maker's signature, the double fusee movement with anchor escapement striking the quarter-hour on eight or four bells

Lot Essay

There were several Charles Cabriers working at 79 Broad Street (later renamed Old Broad Street), London between 1690 and 1777. The maker of this clock, in business from 1743-1777, supplied a pair of automaton and musical bracket clocks, said to be for the King of Nepal, and sold by Sotheby's London, 13 October 1988 (see A.W.J.G. Ord-Hume, The Musical Clock, 1995, pl.IV/15-17, p.283).
