Lot Essay
There were several Charles Cabriers working at 79 Broad Street (later renamed Old Broad Street), London between 1690 and 1777. The maker of this clock, in business from 1743-1777, supplied a pair of automaton and musical bracket clocks, said to be for the King of Nepal, and sold by Sotheby's London, 13 October 1988 (see A.W.J.G. Ord-Hume, The Musical Clock, 1995, pl.IV/15-17, p.283).
