The hinged and folding square checkered playing surface inlaid throughout with dense foliate scrolls and stylized flowers, the playing pieces in the form of charging warriors riding horses, camels and elephants, on stained hardwood rearing elephant supports, with later central pole support

This pattern of inlay is typical to furniture from Mysore, a cabinet-making center in central southern India, who was producing similarly carved examples from 1830.
