GREGG, JOHN, Brig. General, C.S.A.] Albumen bust portrait of Gregg in uniform, [ca. 1862], 4 x 3 in., on contemporary mount, identified in ink below the print. Gregg recruited the 7th Texas Infantry, later commanded the Texas and Tennessee Brigade under Johnston during the Vicksburg campaign, was captured and exchanged, and fought at the Wilderness and Spotsylvania. He was killed 7 October 1864.
