Wilson Duff (1925-1976) is remembered as a renowned scholar of Northwest Coast art and distinguished Professor of Anthropology. He was a dedicated promoter of Northwest Coast art. He played an important role in the renaissance of this art form along with a small group of academics including Hunter Lewis, Harry and Audrey Hawthorne, Bill Holm and others, as well as the talented carvers themselves. He admired great artists such as Albert Edward and Charles Edenshaw not only as creators of beautiful things, but as philosophers of the great age of Northwest Coast art. Wilson Duff inspired generations of students, sharing with them his enthusiasm and knowledge of this rich hertiage.
