ptolemaic period, circa 4th-1st century b.c.
Including a large inlay preserving a register of lotus flowers above four registers of rosettes, of yellow, blue, white and red, the registers divided by white bands bisected by red; together with four small inlays preserving decorative registers of lotus flowers, rosettes, checkerboard, and foliate garlands, each divided by white bands; and one large two-tone wing, the inner portion with a yellow matrix with black, white and red details, the outer with a white matrix with white, red and black details, on a black ground

Lot Essay

The Sangiorgi Collection originally included an additional similar collar fragment which is now in the Corning Museum of Glass, no. 699 in Goldstein, Pre-Roman and Early Roman Glass in The Corning Museum of Glass.
