FIRST EDITION, first issue (with errata uncorrected and with Jombert's address as "Rue S. Jacques"). The first published work by Blondel, the most significant French architectural educator of the eighteenth century, discussing many aspects of the country house. Blondel intended to establish a domestic architecture conforming to the classical principles used on civic buildings, but adapted to suit private homes. Vol. I includes many architectural designs for houses; Vol. II describes ornaments both interior and exterior, and garden plans. Berlin Cat. 2400; Fowler 49; Millard 25 (second issue). (2)
