Letterpress title, dedication and text, 16 handcolored and tinted lithographic plates (20 views) and 1 map with outline color (slight finger-soiling to margins, one fore-margin with a few creases and short tears). Original cloth-backed tan printed wrappers (a few minor stains and creases to upper cover); quarter green morocco folding case.
FIRST EDITION. Warre was sent to America on a reconnaissance mission during the height of the tensions between England and the United States. Peace was restored before he returned with the results of his travels, and the sketches he made during the time were published in this work. "The only Western color plates comparable in beauty to those by Bodmer which accompany Maximillian's Travels" (Graff).
