10 vols., 2o (316 x 228 mm). 1008 handcolored etched plates, including the 35 non-ornithological plates (mostly insect subjects) drawn and engraved by Franois Nicolas Martinet under the supervision of Edm Louis Daubenton. (The 35 non-ornithological plates tipped in throughout the volumes from shorter copies, quires E and F in vol. 1 transposed by the binder, vol. 6 wormed at front as far as p. 107 and catching the first 13 plates, vol. 7 plate 640 with slight tear, vol. 8 plate 513 with ragged fore-edge, a few plates with slight stains.) Contemporary French mottled calf, spines gilt and with maroon and dark olive-green gilt-lettered labels (bindings restored with highly visible leather repairs to head and foot of each spine and with gilt tooling not matching the original, corners renewed, deep leather abrasions re-colored, some joints cracking).
