(Marginal stain on title and frontispiece, margin extremes lightly browned throughout, with fraying to a few plates.) Original publisher's embossed cloth, uncut (joints torn at head of spine, hinges cracked). Provenance: George Combe (his presentation inscription to the Society of Writers to the Signet, dated 1840, on front free endpaper); withdrawal stamp on shelf label on front pastedown. FIRST EDITION.
