Lot Essay

Two examples of the model are known. The second example (1900-1901), in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, has a longer thumb-piece and no enameled decoration. See Charlotte Gere, "European Decorative Arts at the World's Fairs: 1850-1900" in The Metropolitan Museum of Art Bulletin (Winter 1998/99), p. 53 for an illustration of this example inset with chrysoprase cabochons.
