Lot Essay

As Campbell Dodgson first suggested the list on the verso may be an inventory of paintings in the artist's collection. As he had lost all his money speculating in the tulip trade, it is very likely that he would have been constrained to sell his collection. The list includes paintings by Rembrandt, Lievens, Saftleven and Thomas Wyck.
