HOMILIES (on Aggadic passages from the Talmud and the known Midrashim). MANUSCRIPT ON PAPER
[Ottoman Empire, 17th-18th century]
4o (195 x 145 mm). 354 leaves, with modern lead pencil foliation and numerous blanks throughout. Brown inks. Various Oriental cursive hands. (Stained and soiled, edges frayed at beginning and end.) Modern blind and gold-tooled brown morocco, two modern paper flyleaves at back and front; edges stained in various colors (but apparently not an indication of separate sections being bound together later).
CONTENTS:
The anonymous author quotes the relevant passage from the source text, poses a number of questions or difficulties on the passage, and proceeds to answer. At the beginning is an introduction (fol. 6r), and at the end (fol. 349r) a homily in Ladino. At the end (fols. 350r-352v) there is an index of the passages in the Talmud and Midrash commented on.
