cover -- 1832 and 1840 entire letters to London, shwowing strikes of the unframed "INDIA LETTER/PLYMOUTH" (In.4) on reverse, the former from Ceylon, rated "3/9" and inscribed "p. Caroline", the strike in black (a little faint) across the join, the latter from Pernambuco, rated "8" and inscribed "per 'Calcutta'", the strike in red (a little oily but very fine). The In.4 handstamp was issued by the G.P.O. in London on 17th April 1839, the first item arrived in London on the 21st April and must have applied with this marking on the first or second day of use
