cover 1854 entire letter to London, rated "8" and inscribed "p Greenock" showing very fine strike of the framed "GREENOCK/SHIP/LETTER" in blue (Robertson S.16 but not recorded in this colour) fine and very attractive. The enclosure is not headed but it is thought to have originated from Mauritius with interesting reference to "this colony.... now paying £10,000 per annum to the owners of the Propontis, merely for the conveyance of mails to and from Ceylon".
