The medal is undated, but clearly dates from after 1576 when Rudolph became Emperor, and before 1585 when he received the Golden Fleece. (For the iconography of the reverse see J Typotius, Symbola Divina et Humana Pontificum Imperatorum Regum, Prague 1601-03, vol I, no XXXIII/2).
