Lot Essay

Little is known about the artist. He must have been active in Antwerp, since he became a Master in the Guild of Saint Luke of that city in 1689/90. His artistic output consists of still life and genre scenes such as the present picture (J. de Maere & M. Wabbes, Illustrated Dictionary of 17th Century Flemish Painters, 1993, p.398).
