Lot Essay

The carved decoration of this impressive table, particularly that on the legs and lower stretcher, relates to that on a related table, previously in the collection of the Princes of Hohenlohe-Langenburg at Schloss Weikersheim, which was probably executed in the workshop of Philipp Jacob and Georg Christoph Sommer circa 1720. However, the carved concave frieze decorated with strapwork and lambrequins, is very similar to the border, which is depicted on an Viennese drawing of a console table, which was executed at approximately the same time.
