Lot Essay

The present watercolour is a particulalry early example of Tanjore School and can be compared to a set of similar watercolours in the Victoria & Albert Museum (see M. Archer, Company Paintings: Indian Paintings of the British Period, London, 1992, pp. 45-47, pls. 14(9) and 14(23).
