A SET OF FOURTEEN MAHOGANY AND MARQUETRY DINING-CHAIRS
Of George III style, eight late Victorian, six of later date
Including two open armchairs, each with a double-arched back centred by a marquetry fan medallion, above a pierced lyre splat flanked by beaded stiles, the armchairs with beaded arm-supports, above a padded seat covered in brown leather, on square tapering beaded legs joined by H-shaped stretchers (14)

Lot Essay

'Chair Back' engravings with related Grecian lyre splats featured in Thomas Sheraton's The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Drawing Book, 1791, pl. XXXVI, nos. 3 and 6.
A related set of twelve George III chairs was sold from a Midwestern Collection, Sotheby's New York, 15 January 1995, lot 272.
