Gedenkweerdige Brasiliaense Zee-en Lant-Reize. Amsterdam: Jacob van Meurs, 1682. 2 parts in one volume, 2 (31.5 x 20cm.) Title in red and black. Engraved additional title, dedication plate of coat of arms, portrait of the author, 49 maps, plans and plates, 30 double-page and one folding, 33 engraved illustrations. (Some small repairs to outer blank margins.) Contemporary Dutch speckled calf, spine gilt in seven compartments with raised bands, lettered in the second, the others with repeat pattern of stylised foliage around a central lozenge-stamp (light scuffing to joints).

FIRST EDITION, on Brazil and the Dutch East Indies, uniformly bound with the similar works by Dapper (see lots 16, 17). Borba de Moraes writes of the first part 'This classic work on Dutch Brazil is becoming rare. Many copies [as here] are bound together with the account of another voyage by Nieuhof to the East Indies, Zee en Lant Reize door verscheide Gewesten van Osstindien, published with the same date and by the same publisher': Borba de Moraes II, p.614.
