Comprising seventeen dishes and other vessels, each painted with a central depiction of a Persian figure or scene, the figures set against imaginary orientalist backgrounds, blue rims with gold rules, each piece inscribed on the reverse in farsi, slight chips to a couple of pieces, gilding thin on a couple

Atabaig 'Azam, Mirza 'Ali Ashgar Khan Amin al-Sultan, last prime minister of Nasr al-Din Shah.
Sold by his heirs at auction to the grandfather of the present owner.

Lot Essay

It has not been possible to identify the Alexi Roman whose name is written in nasta'liq under every pieces as having commissioned it.
