Colonel George Bridges, C.M.G. was attached to the Protectorate Regiment when it was raised before the outbreak of hostilities. He was severely wounded during the last Boer attack of 12.5.1900, created a companion of the Distinguished Service Order in 1901 and created a companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George in 1917.
