Captain Edward Reading was mentioned for his 'devoted work' in Colonel Otter's report of the fighting of 18.2.1900 (The Royal Canadian Regiment refers) and was commissioned into the South Africa Constabulary on 2.3.1901. He commanded a Canadian Contingent in 'E' Division, S.A.C. which comprised two Western Troops, a mixed Manitoba-Ontario Troop, an Ontario Troop and one Maritime Troop. Reading was subsequently promoted Captain and resigned in 1904.
