A MARBLE DOG'S GRAVESTONE AND A STERLING SILVER DOG TAG
The gravestone 14 x 12in. (35.6 x 30.5cm.); the tag 10in. (25.4cm.)
The gravestone with carved epitaph DORLE, THE ONE I LOVED THE BEST OF ALL, ELSIE MENDL, 1926 PARIS 1942 BEVERLY HILLS; the dog tag inscribed BLU BLU on the front and Lady Mendl, 1018 Benedict Canyon Dr., Beverly Hills on the reverse and stamped with the maker's mark Trifari
The gravestone for Dorle came from the cemetary at Lady Mendl's Beverly Hills residence at 'After All'. Apparently, Ms. de Wolfe was known to have dyed her poodles' fur a shade of blue, hence the name "Blu Blu". (2)
