A Large Porcelain Bowl
Arita Ware, Edo Period (1670-90)
Decorated in vivid polychrome enamels over clear glaze with three Chinese lions and lotuses surrounding pomegranates encircled by two slender lines of greyish underglaze-blue, the exterior enamelled with three large peony sprays alternating with three red cloud clusters below a ribbonate band of red and green within underglaze-blue lines, thick foot ring unglazed, recessed base painted with a narrow circle in underglaze-blue
