Arita Ware, Edo Period (Circa 1700), Kin (Gold) Mark in Underglaze-Blue
The pair of dishes painted in cobalt blue under clear glaze with maple leaves and foliage within parallel rings, the exteriors also painted in underglaze-blue with a ring of foliage and concentric narrow lines above the foot rim, a single line encircling the square mark and three spur marks on each recessed base; the single dish moulded with an eight-lobed rim, decorated on the interior in cobalt blue under clear glaze with two phoenixes and lotus scroll and on the exterior with a line of foliage, three concentric rings above the foot rim, and a single line within the recessed base, five spur marks on base
