Six Tsuba of Various Schools
Edo Period (17th and 18th Centuries, the First Circa 1700, the Second Circa 1750, the Third Circa 1600, the Fourth Circa 1650, the Fifth Circa 1750, the Sixth Circa 1800)
1) An oval shakudo nanako plate with the rim and edge decorated in gold relief with sprays of bush clover in bloom, Mino style; 2) a shakudo nanako mokko plate with raised rim and decorated with gold and shakudo spring flowers, and with gold nanako rim cover and edge, the sunken web carved in high relief with two gold praying mantis and gold blooms with shakudo scrolling tendrils, the reverse with two gold crickets and the same floral patterns, later Mino school; 3) a tanto-size hamidashi thick shakudo plate carved with overlapping waves in the style of the Gunji Yogoro school of Shonai, with gold dots of spray and wave-crest accents, early Edo; 4) a round yamagane plate cast in kagamishi style in sukashi with a large carp in waves, the surface with much of the original black lacquer; 5) an oval iron plate in openwork with two hollyhock leaves and stems within the rim, style of Kinai of Echizen school; 6) a round iron plate with carved sukashi design of three hollyhock leaves and stems with some gold nunome scroll work, Kinai school style (6)
