A Chinese poet on a mule and an attendant pausing on a road to watch a flock of white gulls in the snowy landscape, from the series Shika shashinkyo (A mirror of Chinese and Japanese verse), signed Zen Hokusai Iitsu hitsu, published by Moriya Jihei--very good impression, good color, slightly soiled on the bottom, minor mat stain along edges nagaban tate-e: 50.2 x 22.2cm.

While not titled in the cartouche like other images from this series the poet gazing at the gulls in the snow is believed to be Su Tung-po.
