In typical costume, looking to his right, holding the reins in his left hand, with his game to the back of his saddle, on an oval naturalistic base inscribed Ele. Guillemin to the front, Barye fils to the left side, and a circular stamp inscribed FABRICATION FRANCAISE, PARIS, MADE IN FRANCE to the back, on a stepped spreading plinth

Lot Essay

Emile Guillemin (1841-1907) worked principally with heroic and exotic subjects which he developed with an acute realism that was achieved by the fine quality of his chiselling. His works are notable for their movement and energy which he achieved in all dimensions, frequently working on a scale considerably larger than nature.
