Lot Essay

The design of the present commode is based on an original model executed by Jean-Henri Riesener (matre 1768) in 1775 and supplied to Louis XVI as a replacement for the sumptuous commode by Gaudreaux and Caffiri (supplied in 1739) in the Chambre du Roi at Versailles. The original commode is now in the Muse Cond at Chantilly.
